Briefs vs Trunks: Which Men's Underwear Is Right for You?
Briefs or trunks? The real differences in fit, support and comfort — and how to choose for work, gym and hot weather.

Most men pick one style in their teens and never question it. It is worth a second look.
Briefs
The classic mid-rise brief has no leg, so it is the coolest option in heat and the least visible under loose shalwar. It offers firm support and suits men who walk and move a lot in the day.
Trunks
Trunks — short-leg boxer briefs — add a little leg that stops the fabric riding up and prevents chafing between the thighs. They look sharp, stay put at the gym and suit fitted trousers.
Which to choose
- Hot days and long walks: briefs.
- Gym, cricket, long drives: trunks.
- Fitted trousers: trunks, for a smooth line.
- Can't decide: keep both — a pack of each covers the week.
What matters more than the style
Fabric and waistband. Breathable cotton jersey keeps you dry; a wide, soft waistband stays flat without digging in. Flat seams stop rubbing.
